Far too often these children are needlessly excluded from opportunities to participate with others when a little extra effort is all that is necessary. Attending a major sporting event, taking a family trip, participating in Scouting, or going to summer camp can all be life changing experiences for any child, especially if physically challenged. Since inception, the Foundation has supported hundreds of children with physical challenges to get off the sidelines and jump into the game through school-based programs, camps, excursions, social activities, and college scholarships. It started when Andrew was a camper himself at T Bar M. The camp adapted the entire experience so that Andrew could participate in as much of the experience as any typical camper. Since that time, T Bar M has evolved the program to include specialized training for counselors, slightly modified programming, and updated facilities for improved access. A graduate of Texas Lutheran University, William began his career in education at Seguin ISD before moving to Harlandale ISD, where he taught Life Skills and later served as an Adaptive Physical Education teacher. During his ten years with Harlandale ISD, William was honored with the Teacher of the Year Award from the Down Syndrome Society, published articles in an Adapted PE Journal. He also designed a sensory cart to assist autistic students and developed several district-wide initiatives, including Partners in PE, which built the area’s largest competing unified sports teams. Since joining the Believe It Foundation, William has helped expand the program’s reach from three to twenty-three districts. Now joining the Believe It Foundation, Robby is eager to use his experience to create inclusive opportunities for students with disabilities, ensuring they can participate in activities otherwise inaccessible to them.
