Believe It Bikes in Schools

Believe It Foundation partners with schools and districts to scale social inclusion and create on-ramps for authentic relationships, stretching experiences, and future opportunities. The school setting is our greatest opportunity for change and the pathway to reach the most people because of the frequency of daily interactions and structural supports in place for youth with physical challenges. Yet, because the lines of difference are so clear, schools are also the place where many of our youth can feel the most day-to-day exclusion and isolation.

Believe It Foundation partners with schools to shift from institutional inclusion to authentic social inclusion. The Foundation provides programming for schools that bring youth together around physical activity and social interaction - the Believe It Bikes in Schools Program and Partners in PE. These programs work together starting with providing adaptive bikes to our local school districts. Once the bikes are in place, PE and Special Education teachers provide regular fitness activities for students with physical challenges using the bikes. Partners in PE is the program that districts implement to train and integrate typical peers into school events centered around adaptive bikes. As of January 2024, Believe It Bikes is in17 school districts, including Boerne ISD, East Central ISD, Edgewood ISD, Harlandale ISD, Judson ISD, Lytle ISD, Northside ISD, Schertz Cibolo Universal City ISD, North East ISD, Seguin ISD, New Braunfels ISD, Kerrville ISD,  Southside ISD, South San Antonio ISD, Medina Valley ISD, Somerset ISD and Fredericksburg ISD.

Get Active Days

Alongside nine San Antonio area school districts, Partners in PE and athletes (children with special needs) have the opportunity to ride adaptive bikes and to learn the skills to play numerous adaptive sports during this annual Get Active Day event(s) every Fall semester. The event(s) take place over the course of four days at two sites to provide a large number of athletes an opportunity to participate in these days of inclusion. Believe It Foundation and Kinetic Kids host these events with sponsorships from local businesses and individuals.
